Nigeria Beats Ethiopia In Brazil 2014 W/Cup Play Off 1st Leg

The Brazil 2014 world cup qualifier between Nigeria and Ethiopia has ended with the Super Eagles of Nigeria beating their Ethiopian counterparts by 2 goals to one.
A late penalty awarded to Nigeria gave Nigerians the edge over the Ethiopian after a second half was about to end with 1 goal a piece.  Emmanuel Emenike scored in the 67th and 90th minute after Behailu Assefa’s goal had given the home side the lead in the 57th.
The first half started with the Ethiopians on the front foot with their fans howling and making a terrific atmosphere. And it took just two minutes for the Eagles to concede a corner kick that was quickly followed by another one.
Nnamdi Oduamadi then missed the first gilt-edged chance when he miss-kicked Emenike’s cross. Ethiopia then went forward and Saledine Saif thought he had scored but Godfrey Oboabona made a fantastic clearance to keep the match at 0-0.
And then the Ethiopians scored  Enyeama miss-judged a cross by Assefa and the referee ruled that the ball had crossed the line before the Nigerian goalkeeper claimed it in the 57th minute.
Keshi introduced  introduced Nosa Igiebor for Nnamdi Oduamadi in the 63rd minute .
Nigeria should have equalised in the 62nd minute when Moses went one-on-one with the goalkeeper but the Ethiopian goalkeeper did well to save at the feet of Moses. Coach Stephen Keshi withdrew Moses for Brown Ideye.
And then in the 67th minute, Emenike equalized with a thunderbolt from outside the box and then the Nigerians went on the offensive.
Musa hit the post in the 77th minute off a terrific pass by Mikel. Oboabona made another great clearance in the 83rd minute.
Nigeria went ahead for the first time in the encounter in the 88th minute when Emenike was dragged down in the box for a clear penalty. The Fenerbahce player dusted dispatched the penalty to give the Super Eagles the victory and a leg in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The second leg will be held in Calabar on October 16 at the U.J Esuene Stadium..
Meanwhile President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated the Super Eagles for picking up a valuable away win in Ethiopia.
In a tweet by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati (@abati1990), the president “thanks the Super Eagles for doing Nigeria proud” congratulating “them on their victory against Ethiopia today”.

PDM Praises Atiku, Governors, For Breaking PDP

A new party recently formed by associates of former Vice President Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM, has praised leading members of the Peoples Democratic Party for walking out of the ruling party’s special convention Saturday and announcing a parallel faction.
Atiku’s associates formed the PDM weeks ago and there are speculations that the platform was registered principally to actualize the presidential ambition of the former vice president.
The PDP had today descended into a full blown crisis when Atiku, seven state governors and other leading party members walked out of the Abuja convention and then addressed a press conference to say they had taken over the party.
But in a statement Saturday night, National Chairman of the PDM, Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, praised the dissenting PDP chieftains for displaying bravery and statesmanship in challenging authorities of the PDP.

“The Peoples Democratic Movement today salutes the bravery and statesmanship of the dissenting delegates of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for staying calm in the face of utmost provocation and outright oppression during the just concluded PDP National Convention, held at Eagle Square Abuja,” the statement said.
“We appreciate their bold, brave and patriotic stand of these delegates for refusing to participate in an election which they knew gave no even playing ground to all stakeholders.’’
Mr. Bashir added that PDM, which he described as a party of true democracy, equity fairness, would continue to “stand shoulder to shoulder to shoulder with all true democrats who wish to make Nigeria great again through positive political change”.
The PDM, he said, would, within a few weeks, throw open its online and manual registration of prospective members within and outside the country. Atiku and his colleagues had walked out of the convention to protest the actions of the organisers who had disqualified majority of the contestants vying for party positions.
Over 50 of the 75 aspirants, mostly presumed to be loyal to opponents of President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition within the PDP, were disqualified from vying for the 17 available National Working Committee, NWC, positions of the party.

Man Kidnaps Self, Demands N2million Ransom From Brothers

enugu_manThe police in Enugu State have arrested one Samuel Ani after he allegedly “kidnapped himself” and demanded N2 million ransom from his brothers.
Samuel saw his own kidnap as the quickest way of getting financial assistance from his brothers, who he labeled “stingy fellows”.

However, it has ended up badly for the coffin dealer, an indigene of Ugwuaji, Enugu South Local Government Area.
It was gathered that he faked kidnap and hid himself for six days at a bush behind his shop situated at Gariki axis of Awkunanaw also in Enugu South, from where he was making telephone calls to his two younger brothers in a very convincing tone that he had been abducted and that the sum of N2 million was required to get him out of the purported kidnappers den, else he would be killed.
The spokesman of the police in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, who confirmed the incident disclosed that the case was reported to the State Police Command, which mobilized its anti- kidnapping unit.

O.J SIMPSON WINS PAROLE VICTORY

A Nevada parole board has granted O.J. Simpson his request for parole on some of his convictions for kidnapping and armed robbery in 2008.
But this does not mean the 66-year-old will get freedom from behind bars right now. He still has to serve at least four more years for multiple charges, according to the Associated Press.

Last Thursday, Simpson made his request to two parole board members and said he found it painful to miss family moments since being behind bars.

Back in May, he testified before a judge in an effort to get a new trial. The judge has not made a decision yet. If she rules in Simpson's favor, it will be up to the prosecutors to decide whether he will be set free with credit for time served, offered a plea deal or have his case retried

“Africa’s Next Top Model” Find Out What Supermodel

Oluchi Orlandi said about the TV Show

After all the buzz surrounding the premier of the Africa’s Next Top Model reality TV show, I was especially happy to finally be at the press conference. After all, after the press conference comes the main event. With months of planning and preparation finally coming to a close, the gorgeous ANTM producer and host Oluchi Orlandi sat down with members of the press to talk about the biggest thing in Africa right now.

Dressed in a laid back Deola Sagoe jumpsuit with turban to match, the 6ft model arrived at the Federal Palace hotel conference room and took her seat right beside the ANTM scouting manager – Maria Arrington. From questions about the judges to expect to why she decided to shoot production in South Africa and not Nigeria, the model kept her composure while dropping little jokes to keep the conference upbeat. She explained that they cannot give too much away, but will say that we might get to see a lot of African faces like Iman, Duro Olowu and of course Tyra Banks.

On the question from the Style Mania Magazine team on her choice of production location, she simply stated that professionally she believes South Africa has more to offer in terms of modelling. They have been in the industry longer and have more grounds for fashion and modelling, so it only made sense. However, this does not mean that season 2 may not be produced in Nigeria or any other African country.

Explaining more on the kind of show to expect, Maria was quick to explain in her American accent, that the show will be just like its American counterpart, but with an African flair. The competition is open to all sizes of models but they must meet the height requirement of 5ft 7 to qualify and of course have the beauty and brains for it.

Of course yours truly (I’m talking about me) had to inquire about the fabulous photo shoots we had seen in other cycles of America’s Next Top Model, and if we are to expect the same here. It turns out that not only would we get to see fabulous shoots by African photographers such as Kelechi Amadi Obi, but the models may get to travel to Egypt and New York.

On a close to final note, Oluchi stated that the main reason for the show is to boost the African image. ANTM has been to other countries like Britain & Ireland, Romania, Australia etc and she believes that African countries should not be left out.

Nigerian auditions held on Tuesday 23rd July 2013 and according to Oluchi “I dont know what to expect from Nigeria, but I am hoping at least a thousand model hopefuls show up”. To end the event everyone had lunch and then called it a successful press conference.

The best of luck to the model auditioning ........
